Professionally, Nicole has spent her career working towards justice for victims.  After earning a Bachelor's degree in both English writing and Psychology at Loyola University, she graduated from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center with a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor's in Civil Law.

She began working as an Assistant Attorney General for the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in 2008, prosecuting abuse and neglect of the elderly and financial crimes all over the state of Louisiana. In 2013, she returned home to New Iberia as an Assistant District Attorney, and in 2020 was appointed the City Prosecutor of New Iberia.

She has prosecuted a wide range of cases, from complex financial fraud to violent crimes. As City Prosecutor, she created and implemented a pretrial diversion program -- an initiative that emphasizes accountability while giving individuals a second chance.

Nicole is widely respected for her professionalism, fairness, and deep understanding of the law. Now, she’s ready to bring those values to the bench.

A Professional Prosecutor New Iberia Trusts

Leadership Rooted Traditional Values, Families, and Faith

Nicole Burke is a lifelong New Iberian, a seasoned prosecutor, and a dedicated public servant. With deep local roots and a strong legal record, Nicole is ready to uphold the dignity and impartiality the bench demands. Her commitment to justice runs deep — not just professionally, but personally. Her family has called New Iberia home since the 1800s, and their legacy of service still shapes her values today.

Her grandfather, Dracos Burke, was a U.S. military veteran and Assistant District Attorney for two decades. After his own military service, her father, Patrick Burke, served as a deacon at St. Peter’s Catholic Church for 15 years before answering a call for help from Delcambre.

Nicole is a graduate of Catholic High and is a donating member of St. Peter’s faith community, where she served as a lector. She is also a member of Kiwanis of New Iberia.

Fostering a Better Future for Our Children

Extending her commitment to service beyond the courtroom, Nicole and her husband, Ronald Beaver, are certified foster parents.  Their shared dedication to children and families has led to strong relationships across state agencies, including support from Secretary David Matlock, head of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. After the election, she is looking forward to working closely with him on much needed reforms to the foster care system.

Her Pledge: Firm, Fair, and Swift Justice

For nearly two decades, Nicole Burke has served our community and fought for justice — prosecuting criminals, protecting families, and upholding the Constitution. She brings a deep experience in handling criminal cases and a strong understanding of the law. But just as importantly, she approaches every case with fairness and a commitment to justice -- always weighing the individual facts to make the right decision.
